FOGGY INFINITIES

A friend once described my paintings as Òcolor fields with foggy infinitiesÓ. After many attempts to talk about my own paintings, that description is the one I repeat most often. Another way I describe my work isÐthree dimensional unidentifiable objects  moving through abstract landscapes. Because objects are not recognized as representing anything in the real world, my paintings then tease our sense of size and scale. When a sphere is floating just above a horizon, is it the size of a basketball,  or an olive,  or the Moon. The experience of the color and movement trumps ones insistence on knowing what they are looking at. These paintings can either  be used to bring the warmth of color to a stark loft space and/or be used to pull together an Interior DesignerÕs design that already uses loads of color.

HUNDRED POT SERIES

The sample above (and OS-203 on the main page) represent s a body of work I call the ÒHundred Pot SeriesÓ The same pot, more like a simple urn or a fat bellied vase with a simple rim, I painted a hundred times. Each time with a shift in color and slight variations in shape; each one takes on a personality of itÕs own. In the near future, I will get the rest of these Ò100 Pot PaintingsÓ linked so you can view them all. In 1998 many of the smaller ones were used for a builder in San Francisco to stage the live/work loft sample units.  They were hung in multiples  in the kitchen area and made a very dramatic presence. (Pics to comes).

SIGNATURE SERIES

If you have been signing your name for many years; to checks, to agreements, to correspondence,  most  likely your signature, over  time has become less and less recognizable as  representing anything from  the alphabet,  but  rather some symphony of line, dots, and curves. Next time you sign your name, especially if you sign in a hurry, stop and look at the drama of the calligraphic swiggles and swirls. Now imagine your signature blown up and recreated six feet by eight  feet, floating in some foggy infinity or, as shown above,  hidden within a theatrical landscape. Ask me more about these unique paintings.
